Campaign News
Millions of Impeaches, Impeaches for Me National Journal Hotline Musician John Hall (D) “has shown little restraint in” criticizing Pres. Bush, but “explaining” his plans for Congress if election “has proved more difficult for the longtime” Dem activist. Hall has been “tiptoeing” around the question if he would impeach Bush. Hall said on an online chat with blogger Firedoglake: “Whether impeachment or censure, some action must be taken to circumscribe the powers of the presidency.”
A spokesperson for Rep. Sue Kelly (R) said Hall’s remarks on impeachment show he’s a radical Dem. “Hall realizes this,” and while he was pressed on the issue last week, reminded Firedoglake: “I’m trying to get elected in a historically Republican district” (Scott, Hudson Valley Times Herald-Record, 9/16).
Flashback: Same Old Song, But A Different Theme…
Benjamin blogged in 3/06 that Hall has written his own campaign theme song, sung to the tune of the Orleans hit, “Dance with me”:
“Vote for Me, I want to be in Congress. Can’t you see, the country’s in a big mess. Katrina showed us the emperor’s new clothes, so just vote for me. Vote for Peace and we can all have healthcare, almost free no more pre-emptive warfare, we’ll be sweeties, abide by our treaties. Vote for me. Let’s impeach Bush and Cheney, too after we win back both the House and Senate. The line of succession leads to number three, Speaker Pelosi. Vote for me, and send Sue Kelly packin’, then we’ll bring our troops home from Iraq and we’ll start winning, it’ll be a beginning. Vote for me” (Albanay Times-Union, 3/28).
