Kelly Nabs Key Environmental Endorsements National League of Conservation Voters, New York League of Conservation Voters Endorse Kelly on Banks of the Hudson River
Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY – The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) and the National League of Conservation Voters (LCV) today jointly endorsed Congresswoman Sue Kelly for re-election in the race for New York’s 19th Congressional District.
Standing on the bank of the Hudson River at a Sunday afternoon news conference with other environmental leaders, LCV President Gene Karpinski said, “LCV is proud to endorse Rep. Sue Kelly for re-election. During her tenure in Congress, Rep. Kelly has supported common sense solutions to move this country toward a clean energy future, such as requiring new cars to go further on a gallon of gas. She also believes Congress should take strong action to reduce the threat of global warming. We applaud Rep. Kelly’s commitment to investing in clean energy and to protecting public health and our environment.”
“Sue Kelly has consistently put New York’s health and safety above White House politics,” said NYLCV Executive Director Marcia Bystryn. “She has fought hard to protect our water sources from unregulated pollution and to move our nation toward a cleaner energy policy. We are delighted to endorse her for re-election.”
Rep. Kelly earned a 92 percent rating this year in LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. This score was the highest rating received by any Republican Member of the House of Representatives.
“I’m flattered to have the endorsement of both the League of Conservation Voters and the New York League of Conservation Voters, and that they have been willing to validate an environmental record of which I am extremely proud,” said Rep. Kelly.
The NYLCV was founded in 1989 as a non-partisan, policy making and political action organization that works to make environmental protection a top priority with elected officials, decision-makers and the voters by evaluating incumbent performance and endorsing and electing environmental leaders to office in New York State.
The nonprofit LCV is the independent political voice for the environment. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies.
